Product information - GeForce GTX 1070 STRIX O8G Gaming, 8192 MB GDDR5The performance segment of the Pascal series is best represented by the GeForce GTX 1070. The Pascal architecture, combined with the new 16 nm FinFET manufacturing process, has led to an impressive increase in performance when compared to the Maxwell architecture of the previous generation. Following in the footsteps of its predecessor the GeForce GTX 970, the new GTX 1070 trades blows with the GeForce GTX Titan X in benchmarks!

Semi-Passive Strix Cooler, Aura RGB-LEDs & Overclock ModeThe ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 STRIX O8G has a base clock of 1,632 MHz and GPU Boost 3.0 allows the base clock to be increased automatically to 1,835 MHz should additional performance be required. ASUS's "GPU Tweak II" software allows the card to be switched over to "OC" mode. The memory is clocked at 4,004 MHz (effectively 8,008 MHz). The cooling of the card is provided by ASUS's semi-passive "STRIX" cooler.
The DirectCU III cooler design from ASUS uses copper heatpipes in direct contact with the GPU. Atop the copper heatpipes are situated aluminium-finned heat sinks that are specially designed to direct heat away from the GPU with the help of three further fans. If the GPU is not under heavy load, e.g 2D applications, and remains below the temperature threshold, the cooling fans can be slowed down or stopped completely when temperatures allow. This enables the quietest possible running of the graphics card.
Two four-pin fan headers can be connected to a maximum of two PWM- (Pulse Width Modulation) controlled case fans. This allows the rotational speed of the PWM case fans to adapt according to the temperature of the graphics card. Since the GPU produces more heat while gaming than the CPU, this can improve ventilation of the case as a whole.
The grey-black cooler shroud and RGB LED lighting on ASUS's GeForce GTX 1070 STRIX O8G leaves a lasting impression, and the backlit Strix logo on the backplate only adds to it. The lighting can also be controlled via the "Aura" lighting app, and is usable on various ASUS motherboards. Some of these motherboards also offer connectors for RGB lighting strips, that take of lighting on the motherboard as well as on the graphics card.
GeForce GTX 1070: Gaming Power for VR and 4K!The 8 GB of VRAM is connected to the GPU via a 256 bit memory interface, reaching a maximum throughput of 256 GB/s and provides the card with 6,5 TFLOPS of computational power. This places the GTX 1070 slightly ahead of the previous generation's flagship card, the GeForce GTX Titan X!
In addition to the VRAM the GP104 GPU offers 1,920 CUDA cores that also play an equal role in the raw gaming power of the GTX 1070. The GTX 1070 supports DirectX 12 as well as current gaming technologies such as NVIDIA Gameworks, Warp, Stereo X, VR Audio, PhysX and SMP (Simultaneous Multi-Projection). Version 4.0 is now supported and confers huge benefits upon users of VR and curved displays as well as standard multi-display setups.
Multiple monitors were previously recognised by games as a single extra-wide monitor, whereby the GPU merely rendered a single Viewport that resulted in warping and distortion. Thanks to SMP, Pascal now supports 16 simultaneous Viewports thus allowing fundamentally more realistic graphics on multiple monitors, curved displays, or in 3D applications. VR in particular benefits from the new technology as it supports the simultaneous rendering of two Viewports in a single pass. By using multiple Viewports the rendered image requires a smaller number of pixel calculations, massively increasing performance in VR applications.
