Product information - ROG Zenith Extreme, AMD X399 Mainboard - Sockel TR4

PCIe NVMe SSDs on AMD's X399 motherboards are connected directly to the GPU and Threadripper reserves a whole 12 PCIe lanes for this purpose. This enables the extreme read- and write speeds of NVME M.2 and U.2 SSDs to be used as efficiently as possible, without having to delay data by diverting it through the chipset. U.2- or M.2 SSDs can be installed, with each PCIe NVMe slot coming with four PCI-Express 3.0 lanes to allow for exceptionally high data transfer rates ranging up to 32 Gbit/s, almost eight times faster than SATA 6G.
The X399 chipset on socket TR4 motherboards is connected to the processor via four PCIe lanes and the X399 platform itself supports USB 3.1 natively, meaning that as a rule no additional USB controllers are necessary to allow the board to offer ultra fast 10 Gbit/s speeds per USB port. X399 motherboards drive the RAM in the speedy Quad-Channel Mode, reaching RAM frequencies of up to 4.000 MHz depending on the motherboard.
A further feature supported by X399 motherboards is the overclocking of Ryzen Threadripper CPUs and, when paired with Socket TR4, this makes for a truly formidable enthusiast-level platform for gamers and content creators.
Features of the ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme in E-ATX Format
The ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme is a motherboard using the ATX-format and provides four PCI-Express 3.0 slots for graphics cards, each pair coming with a full 16 and 8 lanes to connect them to the chipset. Further expansion cards can be installed in the PCIe x1- and x4 slot. Furthermore the ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme supports, as an X399 motherboard, AMD's CrossFire and NVIDIA's SLI technology for multi-GPU setups. Up to 128 GB DDR4 RAM can be installed in the eight memory banks, allowing the RAM to run at a maximum of 2.666 MHz natively. Overclocking allows for even higher clock frequencies up to 3.200 MHz.Special Features of the ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme at a Glance:
- 4x PCIe 3.0 x16 (x16/x16/x8/x8) for high-end graphics cards
- 2x USB 3.1: Type A & Type C + 3x M.2-slot PCIe 3.0 x4
- DDR4-RAM up to 3.200 MHz in Quad-Channel Mode
- BT/WiFi module & 2x Gigabit LAN
- RGB-LED lighting including RGB-LED headers
- Modern UEFI-BIOS with temperature monitoring
Data storage devices like SSDs and hard drives are managed via eight SATA 6G connectors (incl. RAID support) as well as three M.2 slots and a U.2 port which together are connected via four PCI Express 3.0 lanes directly to the CPU. M.2 SSDs from 42 to 110 mm can be used and furthermore the advanced NVM Express protocol is supported to enable optimised use of modern PCIe SSDs. Two of the M.2 slots are located on a M.2 DIMM card which is situated vertically on the right side of the motherboard next to the DIMM slots. This allows the M.2 slots to receive airflow as opposed to being situated near the PCIe slots which can cause M.2 SSDs to throttle due to the heat.
A small highlight of the ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme is also to be seen in the I/O panel located to the rear of the motherboard where a USB 3.1 Type-C port is located. The new, thin, and finally reversible USB Type C port Gen 2 reaches maximum speeds of 10 Gbit/s per port. Two LAN ports, a USB 3.1 Type A port as well as eight USB 2.0 ports round out the range connectivity options for peripherals.
Some of the special refinements offered by the ASRock Fatal1ty X399 Professional Gaming also include RGB-LED lighting and RGB-LED headers as well as a WiFi module which supports the special AD standard. Further internal connectors encompass two headers for USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 for 4 ports respectively, five 4-pin headers for the CPU, case fans, as well as water pumps and last but not least various internal status/debug LEDs, headers and switches. A further feature of the ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme is seen in the expansion card for a 10 Gigabit LAN port, which is connected via the PCIe x4 slot.
Note: Due to the size of the Ryzen Threadripper, Socket TR4 differs from previous sockets. Please follow the CPU mounting instructions of the motherboard when installing the CPU. This is an LGA socket. The pins are located on the socket, not on the CPU.

Customer review "ASUS ROG Zenith Extreme, AMD X399 Mainboard - Sockel TR4"
Hm
Slot an.
