Product information - Delid-Die-Mate 2 AMD KitAMD's new Accelerated Processing Units (APUs) are codenamed Raven Ridge, representing a combination of a Ryzen processor and a graphics unit based on the Vega architecture. They are also no longer soldered to the CPU and heatspreader, and instead use a standard thermal paste. This has a relatively low thermal conductivity and thus reduces heat dissipation. This in turn reduces the overclocking headroom.
It doesn't matter how powerful the CPU cooling is in this instance, due to the fact that heat accumulates inside the processor package itself. As such, the more courageous enthusiasts out there generally opt to remove the heatspreader with a sharp razor blade or other sharp tools to improve cooling. This demands a steady hand and a patient approach, as it is easy to damage vital components on the CPU. Even for professional overclockers with a lot of experience, this drastic approach is not without risk.
Delidding without a RazerThe benchmarking pro Roman "der8auer" Hartung developed Delid Die Mate 2 for this reason and improved it again in version 2. The Mate 2 is a remedy for this and makes it possible for everyone to remove the heatspreader easily, comfortably and safely without having to risk your CPU. The delidding tool is made from robust, black anodized aluminium and includes a laser-engraved der8auer logo.
Now der8auer has discovered that the Delid Die Mate 2 works not only with Intel CPUs, but also with Raven Ridge APUs. The heatspreader of the APU fits exactly into the form of the Delid Die Mate 2. To ensure that the slide rests evenly on the CPU, the8auer has designed a matching adapter and included the slightly larger screw required by the adapter with this expansion kit.
Straightforward UsageThe APU is placed in the Delid Die Mate 2 with the heatspreader facing down. The adapter is then placed on top of the board with the recess for the screw facing upwards. The carriage is then clamped to the adapter. Now the M6 x 60 hexagon socket screw is inserted as usual through the rear end of the Delid Die Mate 2 and screwed into the carriage.
Now slowly pull the slide with the hexagon wrench until the circuit board has come loose from the heatspreader. AMD's APUs require a little more power than the Intel CPUs. Now the heatspreader and CPU have the heat conductive paste removed. The adapter is also suitable for removing the adhesive from the heatspreader and the CPU. Its lasered edges are relatively sharp, but do not damage the CPU.
