Internal Cables
Inside every PC system, numerous cables are used to connect and power individual hardware components. While flat ribbon cables were traditionally often used in the interiors of computers, today round cables are increasingly found, which, due to their shape, do not obstruct airflow as much and are easier to manage.
Internal Cables Transmit Data and Energy
Internal connection cables, extension cables, or adapters come in various lengths and strengths with different plugs and sockets for diverse applications. If a plug or socket does not fit, a suitable adapter can be the solution. Internal cables can be enclosed in a stylish sleeve, providing extra protection.
- Various internal cables ensure the power supply to the motherboard and hardware components of a PC system. If the cables of an ATX, SFX, or TFX power supply are too short for a big tower, an extension is necessary, such as a PCIe power cable for the graphics card or a 4-pin ATX12V, 8-pin EPS12V, or 20+4-pin ATX connector for the motherboard. Molex and SATA power cables, adapters, and extensions are also essential for connecting storage devices like SSDs or HDDs.
- Data transmission often takes place via internal data cables. Storage devices (SSD, HDD) and drives (ODD, FDD) are connected to the motherboard using floppy cables, IDE cables, or SATA cables. Special forms like SATA combo cables supply power to optical slim drives and also provide data lines.
- Fan cables with 3-pins or 4-pins, I/O cables with 2-pins, or front panel cables, extensions, and adapters are suitable for connecting fans and case functions to the computer's motherboard.
- Other internal cables include audio cables for sound transmission, SLI cables for connecting multiple graphics cards, or internal USB cables for front USB ports.
