Intel Socket 1150 Processors
The LGA1150 socket, also known as Socket 1150, is the socket used for Intel processors of the "Haswell (Refresh)" family, which have been on the market since mid-2013 and have gained significant popularity. Intel refers to these processors as Intel Core processors of the fourth generation. The Socket 1150 CPUs are built using the highly efficient 22nm manufacturing process.
High Performance with Low Power Consumption - Socket 1150
While Intel also has another platform in its portfolio with the Socket 2011 for high-end systems, Socket 1150 remains the most popular choice for several good reasons. The range of available Socket 1150 CPUs spans from budget-friendly and power-efficient Celeron processors to the Pentium series CPUs with excellent price-to-performance ratios, all the way up to fully equipped and very fast CPUs with Core i3, i5, or i7 designations. These processors are designed for various use cases:
- Unlocked and Unleashed! Some Socket 1150 processors, especially at the upper end of the performance spectrum, feature an unlocked multiplier (often denoted by the "K" at the end of the product name), allowing easy overclocking—a capability limited in most other Intel CPUs.
- Number of Cores: If power consumption and price are critical, and performance is secondary, Celerons are a great choice. Socket 1150 CPUs in this category come with one or two cores. Pentium G and Core i3 CPUs generally have two cores, while the remaining Socket 1150 CPUs in the Core i5 and Core i7 series almost exclusively feature four cores, making them top performers.
- Features: LGA1150 CPUs in the i3 and i7 series include Intel's Hyper-Threading Technology, significantly accelerating parallel execution of multiple threads. The Turbo Boost mode, found in i5 and i7 processors, provides slightly higher clock rates based on core utilization.
Additional differences can be found in cache size, memory speed, and features like VT-d and AES-NI, which are not available in all CPUs.
