Machined from a solid block of aluminium, this backplate can be installed as an addition to the PHANTEKS Glacier range of watercoolers for the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Founders Edition- and reference design graphics cards. It significantly improves rigidity and support around the area of the VRMs. The backplate is anodised in black and is mounted to the reverse of the graphics card.
Apart from the striking aesthetic improvement that this backplate provides, the additional stability of the graphics card when mounted with a water cooler is an attractive proposition. Essentially, the backplate prevents the PCB from bending as a result of unequal torsion arising from mounting the cooler, thereby helping to reduce the risk of damage over the long term.
