The
970 EVO Plus SSD series from
Samsung represents yet another astonishing leap forward over all previous speeds, securing its place as the unrivalled market leader when it comes to flash-based Solid State Drives. The reasoning behind this is due in no small part to the technical superiority of
Samsung SSDs, most of all the
Samsung 970 EVO Plus series that uses the M.2 format and offers 1 TB of storage, stacked
MLC memory cells with 90 or more layers (V-NAND v5), blazing fast PCI-Express 3.0 connectivity with 4 Lanes and support for the cutting-edge NVM-Express 1.3 protocol. The new
Samsung NVMe SSD 970 EVO Plus series offers
up to 36 percent faster write speeds than its predecessor .
The Samsung 970 EVO Plus M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD at a Glance:
- Modern M.2 NVMe-PCIe SSD with 1 TB capacity
- Ultra-fast 3.500/3.300 MB/s Read/Writes
- Total of 600.000/550.000 IOPS 4KB Random Read/Write (QD32)
- Samsung Phoenix Controller & Samsung MLC V-NAND v5 (9x Layer)
- Guaranteed write volume (TBW): 600 TB (or 5 year manufacturer's guarantee)
M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD with Massive Read- and Write Speeds
The
Samsung "Phoenix" controller of this hyper-fast drive supports four PCI-Express Lanes of Standards 3.0, that enable a theoretical max throughput of some 3.900 MB/s! Combined with the Samsung MLC-V-NAND (Version 5) the 1 TB variant of the
Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus offers
a massive 3.500 MB/s when reading and 3.300 MB/s when writing along with fantastic IOPS values of 600.000 in 4KB Reads and 550.000 in 4KB Writes. The modern "Phoenix" controller chip allows, when paired with the revised and updated Intelligent TurboWrite Technology, aka SLC Cache, for a massive boost in terms of durability. The
improved Dynamic Thermal Guard supports improved heat dissipation, which enables the drive's high speeds to be sustained for longer.
Highly Efficient 3D VNAND with 9x Layers
Version 5 3D VNAND memory 5 (V-NAND v5 for short) used in the
Samsung 970 EVO Plus refers to the cylindrical cells that are stacked on top of one another in multiple layers. Firstly, this enables greater memory capacities with higher read-/write speeds with a smaller surface area footprint. Secondly however, this
increases the lifespan of the memory as well as its energy efficiency. In comparison to its predecessor series, the Samsung 970 EVO Plus SSDs utilise 90 rather than 64 layers and - even at 2 TB of maximum capacity, only use one side, meaning that maximum compatibility is achieved and the drives will fit in most notebooks.
Intelligent TurboWrite for Maximising Speeds
This
Samsung SSD 970 EVO Plus is able to use the updated Intelligent TurboWrite Technology on the 1 GB of DRAM Cache. This improves the overall user experience, especially when it comes to the transfer of large files or the use of applications with increased read loads.
Note: In order to achieve maximum speeds, the proprietary Samsung NVMe driver must be installed and updated at regular intervals. For firmware updates, Samsung's Magician software is available.
