Overclocking guru der8auer has already managed to set a new records with the cutting-edge AMD Ryzen™ 5 with an astonishing 5,9 GHz on a six-core CPU in addition to a frequency of 5,8 GHz set with a four-core CPU:
News: The Resurrection, Part 2: – AMD Ryzen 5 Information Released!
With the Ryzen launches proceeding apace it comes as no surprise that Ryzen 5-series of processors are on the way. According to various sources the Ryzen 5 series is being released on 11.04.2017 and will contain models with four and six cores. The new quad- and hexa-core CPUs will form the mid-range segment of the „Summit Ridge“ series of processors from the engineers at the Texan chip manufacturer. Needless to say these will be highly-competitive in terms of pricing and attractive to both gamers as well as users of professional applications. In terms of pricing we can’t talk specifics just yet, but Ryzen 5 CPUs should – according to sources – cost between 200,00 and 300,00 Euros.
Ryzen 5 1600X & Ryzen 5 1600: 6 Cores and Multi-Threading
At first glance both hexacore CPUs differ from each other, according to sources, in terms of base and boost clocks, as well as the maximum possible XFR frequency. The Ryzen 5 1600X is clocked accordingly at 3,6/4,0 GHz and the Ryzen 5 1600 at 3,2/3,6 GHz. XFR increases the clock rate by up to 100 MHz. XFR stands for Extended Frequency Range and is an automatic overclocking facility built into Ryzen CPUs. Besides automated overclocking Ryzen CPUs allow the option of manual overclocking using AMD’s unlocked multiplier. Both CPUs are equipped with 16 MB L3 cache and the Ryzen 5 1600X appears to come with a 95 Watt TDP, while the Ryzen 5 1500 has a 65 Watt TDP. The boxed version of the Ryzen 5 1600 presumably comes with a Wraith Spire CPU cooler.
Four Cores of Processing Power: Ryzen 5 1500X & Ryzen 5 1400
The basic model in the Ryzen mid-range class apparently come with four cores as well as multi-threading and a 65 Watt TDP. While the Ryzen 5 1500X comes with 16 MB L3 cache, the Ryzen 5 1400 comes with 8 MB L3 cache. The clock rates seem to be 3,5/3,7 GHz on the 1500X and 3,2/3,4 GHz on the 1300. Even the „starter“ Ryzen 5 CPUs offer the XFR feature in addition to an unlocked multiplier for manual overclocking. The 1500X is said to come with the Wraith Spire in the boxed version, while the boxed Ryzen 5 1400 comes with the Wraith Stealth.
