Update 3: First Benchmarks for the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti!

The hardware magazine ComputerBase has already published the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition benchmarks (external link). In this fascinating article the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti was compared with the NVIDIA Titan X (Pascal), the GeForce GTX 1080 as well as with the GTX 980 Ti, and a multitude of benchmarks carried out and the results analysed. The four-page article also goes into the overclocking potential of the high-end graphics card and explored the construction of the GTX 1080 Ti.

The recently-published Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Wildlands (07.03.2017) effectively demonstrates the strengths of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti: in playing games in the 4K/UHD resolutions. At details and Full HD resolution (1.920 x 1.080P) a non-overclocked GTX 1080 Ti FE reaches 63,3 Frames Per second (FPS). While the Titan X (Pascal) sits just behind it at 63,1 FPS, a GTX 1080 FE sits at 53,1 FPS. At this point the differences between the GTX 1080 Ti and the GTX 1080 are still relatively small.

At 3.840 x 2.160 Pixel (4K/UHD) and with the „Very High“ setttings, the GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition beats the GTX 1080 by 27% – or 42 FPS and 33 FPS. With a manual overclock and with temperature- and power targets raised to maximum the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti targets 47,9 FPS. In general 4K performance the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition beats the Founders Edition of the GTX 1080 by an enormous 35%. With a degree of overclocking this performance jump can be increased even further, up to a phenomenal 45%!

Update 2: The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti FE Unboxing Video

Caseking’s overclocking legend Roman „der8auer“ Hartung published an extensive unboxing video on the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition in which he goes into the optimal voltages and power settings of the flagship graphics card. In the video Roman also explains how the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, using the power target mod can be overclocked even further – at your own risk of course!

Update 1: Recommended Retail Price & Release Date for the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

NVIDIA has published a recommended retail price of 819,00 EUR for the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition in the German market. The Founders Edition of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is equipped with an optimised vapour-chamber cooling design that builds on that of the GeForce GTX 1080. According to media reports, some of which have already been mentioned by commenters in the blog, the release date of the new highest-end GPU 10.03.2017.

Board partners like ASUS have already announced via social media that variants of the GTX 1080 Ti with custom-coolerswill be available, including models with the esteemed STRIX variant. Those who would like to equip their brand new GeForce GTX 1080 Ti with a watercooler don’t need to wait long either since the premium manufacturer EK Water Blocks has also announced that any full-cover watercooler for the NVIDIA Titan X is also compatible with the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.

NEWS: BEST Ti EVER – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Faster than Titan X

Best Ti ever“ was the headline of the presentation for the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card that was announced at the Games Developers Conference (GDC) by NVIDIA’s CEO Jen-Hsun Huang. The flagship graphics card for gamers and enthusiasts will, according to NVIDIA, offer 35 percent more performance than the previous top model, the GeForce GTX 1080. This was a larger performance jump than even the increase between the GeForce GTX 980 to the GTX 980 Ti (approx. 25% more performance), furthermore the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti could be slightly faster than the enthusiast-grade card, the Pascal-gen NVIDIA Titan X, which remains to be confirmed by independent benchmarks.

The Technical Specifications of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

  • GP102-GPU
  • 1,6 GHz Boost Clock
  • OC up to 2 GHz!
  • 3.584 CUDA Cores
  • 224 Texture Units
  • 28 Geometry Units
  • 6 Graphics Processing Clusters (GPC)
  • 88 Render Output Units (ROP)
  • 11 GB GDDR5X VRAM
  • 352-Bit Memory Interface
  • 484 GB/s Memory Bandwidth
  • Memory Frequency: 5.500 MHz
  • 3x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI
  • 1x 8-Pin PCIe + 1x 6-Pin PCIe
  • 250 Watt TDP

GeForce GTX 1080 Ti: NVIDIA’s New Flagship

The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is based, like the Titan X, on the GP102-GPU with Pascal architecture and 3.584 Shader Units, or CUDA Cores, with a further increased GPU Boost Clock of around 1,6 GHz. With overclocking, GPU clock frequencies of up to 2 GHz are possible. The DualFET design allows the energy supply on the PCB to be optimised, which leads to lower temperatures and conversely, markedly higher overclocks.

The VRAM of the GTX 1080 Ti: 11 GB GDDR5X

The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti, as in the case of the Titan X and the GeForce GTX 1080, utilises GDDR5X VRAM which – when compared to traditional GDDR5 VRAM – offers up to 50% additional bandwidth. The 352-Bit bandwidth interface and the 11.000 MHz effective memory frequency allows a total memory bus bandwidth of 484 GB/s. The 11 Gbps module on the GDDR5X VRAM originated from Micron, thereby profiting from process optimisation in comparison to the RAM which was used in the GeForce GTX 1080.

Price & Release of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

While no firm release date for the GTX 1080 Ti was named, there was some information in terms of price ranges from NVIDIA: it should cost in the region of 699 USD, without taxes of course! With that in mind the recommended retail price is on a similar level to that of the GTX 1080 (at release) and markedly lower than the MSRP of the Titan X. A price difference between the reference design and the partner cards was not mentioned, however the graphics cards from NVIDIA’s partners will probably offer additional cooling and performance options. No MSRP is currently available in Euros.
