Update 1 – GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition price & release date revealed!
News – NVIDIA unveils GeForce GTX 1080 Ti flagship graphics card!

Update 1: Unconfirmed MSRP & release date for the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

NVIDIA has revealed an MSRP of 819,00 EUR for the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Founders Edition on the German market. The Founders Edition of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti will be equipped with an optimised vapour chamber cooler design based on that of the GeForce GTX 1080. According to media reports, as mentioned by commenters here on the blog, the release date of the new highest-end GPU is confirmed as March 10th 2017.

Some board partners like ASUS have already announced variants of the GTX 1080 Ti with custom coolers including models with the esteemed STRIX cooler. Those who would like to have their GeForce GTX 1080 Ti kitted out with a water cooler will also not have to wait for long as the premium manufacturer EK Water Blocks has announced that all of their NVIDIA Titan X full-cover water coolers are compatible with the new GeForce GTX 1080 Ti.

NEWS: BEST Ti EVER – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti Faster than a Titan X

Best Ti ever“ was the headline from one page of the presentation on the new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti graphics card, which was introduced by NVIDIA’s CEO, Jen-Hsun Huang at the Games Developers Conference (GDC). The flagship graphics card for gamers and enthusiasts will, according to NVIDIA, offer up to 35% more performance compared to the GeForce GTX 1080. This would be a significantly larger performance increase than between the GeForce GTX 980 to the GTX 980 Ti (approximately 25% performance improvement) and the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti would presumably be slightly faster than the Pascal-generation NVIDIA Titan X – which still has to be borne out by benchmarks.

The Technical Specifications of the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti:

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

  • GP102 GPU
  • 1,6 GHz Boost clock
  • OC up to 2 GHz!
  • 3.584 CUDA cores
  • 224 Texture units
  • 28 Geometry units
  • 6 Graphics Processing Cluster (GPC)
  • 88 Render Output Units (ROP)
  • 11 GB GDDR5X VRAM
  • 352-bit Memory interface
  • 484 GB/s Memory bandwidth
  • Memory clock: 5.500 MHz
  • 3x DisplayPort, 1x HDMI
  • 1x 8-Pin PCIe + 1x 6-pin PCIe
  • 250 Watt TDP

GeForce GTX 1080 Ti: NVIDIA’s New Flagship

The GeForce GTX 1080 Ti is, like the Titan X, based on the GP102 GPU with Pascal microarchitecture and 5.584 shader units, or CUDA cores, and comes with an increased GPU boost clock at roughly 1,6 GHz. Overclocking allows the clock frequencies of the GPU to be increased even further, enabling frequencies of up to 2 GHz. The DualFET design has also contributed towards optimising the power supply on the PCB, which is reflected in both the decreased temperatures and in the increased overclocking potential.

The VRAM of the GTX 1080 Ti: 11 GB GDDR5X

NVIDIA, as in the Titan X and the GeForce GTX 1080, has decided to settle on GDDR5X VRAM for the GeForce 1080 Ti. When compared to traditional GDDR5 VRAM, GDDR5X offers up to 50% more bandwidth. The 352-bit memory interface and the 11.000 MHz effective clock speeds resulting in a memory bandwidth of 484 GB/s in the 11 Gbp/s modules which originate from Micron and benefit from process manufacturing optimisations.

Price & Release Date of the GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

While no release date was given for the GTX 1080 Ti, there was some pricing information available on NVIDIA’s website: $699, before taxes of course! This means the recommended retail price is on the same level as the GTX 1080 (on release) and markedly lower than the MSRP of the Titan X. The price difference between the reference design and the partner cards was not discussed, however graphics cards from NVIDIA’s partners will end up on the market at a later time. A recommended retail price is not currently available in euros.
