The AMD Ryzen 5 9600 desktop processor at a glance
The AMD Ryzen 5 9600 from the Granite Ridge processor family features 6 CPU cores based on the "Zen 5" architecture. Each core has access to the entire L3 cache, significantly enhancing gaming performance.
Paired with a compatible AM5 motherboard, the AMD Ryzen 5 9600 supports the PCI-Express 5.0 standard, which is twice as fast as PCIe 4.0. All Ryzen 9000 processors utilise the AM5 platform and are designed for use with corresponding AMD chipsets.
The AMD Ryzen 5 9600 6-core CPU with 3.8 GHz base clock
The AMD Ryzen 5 9600 has 6 physical CPU cores, which, thanks to Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT), can each handle two threads simultaneously, effectively doubling the processing power to 12 threads.
The Ryzen 5 operates at a base clock of 3.8 GHz per core, which dynamically adjusts in real time via Precision Boost 2 and can reach up to 5.2 GHz turbo within the 65-watt TDP.
Six CPU cores built using 4-nanometre technology
The silicon of the CPU cores is manufactured using an advanced 4 nm FinFET process. The reduced structure size allows for the integration of 6 MB Level-2 cache and 32 MB Level-3 cache, which is particularly beneficial for gaming.
This improved manufacturing process leads to higher efficiency and lower heat generation, offering more headroom for performance. Gamers benefit from a more stable and powerful system performance.
The I/O chiplet in the CPU package is produced using a 6-nanometre process. In total, the CPU provides 28 PCIe lanes: four for the connection to the motherboard chipset, eight for NVMe SSDs, and 16 for graphics cards.
Maximum performance with PCI-Express 5.0
The AMD Ryzen 5 9600, in combination with a compatible motherboard, supports the PCI-Express 5.0 standard. This is backwards compatible and works with all older expansion cards. Compared to PCIe 4.0, PCIe 5.0 offers twice the data transfer rate per lane. This allows an NVMe SSD connected via four PCIe 5.0 lanes to achieve theoretical read/write speeds of up to 15.6 GB/s.
The AM5 platform also includes modern external device connections such as Thunderbolt 4 and USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 with a Type-C connector and data transfer rates of up to 40 Gbit/s.
Automatic overclocking with Precision Boost 2
With AMD Zen 5, overclocking is no longer a concern, as the AMD Ryzen 5 9600 does it automatically for you. Thanks to the auto-OC feature Precision Boost 2, the processor can increase its clock speed beyond the factory-set maximum boost limit. This automatic overclocking ensures optimised performance without requiring manual adjustments.
Unlocked CPU: Manual overclocking with an unlocked multiplier
The AMD Ryzen 5 9600 is "unlocked" and features an unlocked multiplier, allowing you to freely adjust the multiplier. Using BIOS/UEFI or convenient software, you can manually increase the clock speed or adjust the voltage curve for greater efficiency.
More possibilities with new AMD motherboards
High-end motherboards with the new AMD X870(E) or B850(E) chipsets are designed to maximise the performance of Ryzen 9000 processors. These motherboards typically feature advanced voltage regulators (VRMs), allowing the Ryzen 5 9600 to communicate efficiently with the chipset.
The next generation of chipsets supports not only the latest USB4 interfaces for faster connectivity but is also compatible with existing AM5 motherboards from the 600 series through BIOS updates.
AMD Radeon - High-efficiency RDNA graphics chips for desktop
The "Granite Ridge" CPUs in the Ryzen 9000 series are equipped with an integrated Radeon graphics unit. The GPU consists of two compute units with a total of 128 shaders and a base clock of 2,200 MHz. Additionally, the Radeon chip supports AV1 / VP9 decoding as well as H.264 / H.265 encoding and offers DisplayPort 2.0 for 8K at 120 Hz, along with HDMI 2.1 at 48 Gbit/s.
