Liquid Coolers for MOSFETs / VRMs

Water Coolers for MOSFETs / Voltage Regulators are used to integrate the originally air-cooled areas of a motherboard into a water cooling loop. Through the large cooling unit that the coolant passes through, the voltage regulators and the transistors (MOSFETs) of the motherboard are effectively cooled. These water coolers are always specifically designed for certain motherboard series. Water coolers for MOSFETs / voltage regulators are sold individually but also in sets with water coolers for chipsets or a CPU water block.

Water Coolers for MOSFETs / Voltage Regulators - Different Designs with Different Materials

The material used is mostly electrolytic copper as a base. This can also be nickel-plated, giving the water cooler for MOSFETs / voltage regulators a more elegant appearance and protecting the copper from corrosion. It is important to ensure that all materials in the entire water cooling loop are compatible with each other, as chemical reactions that can damage the components might otherwise be triggered. The lid of the water cooler can also be made of POM/acetal plastic or acrylic glass. The latter is suitable for equipping the water cooler with LEDs to create a great visual effect.

Thus, two or more LED holes are often included in the acrylic lids of some manufacturers. The connections of a water cooler for MOSFETs / voltage regulators usually consist of two G1/4 ports that integrate the cooler into the water cooling loop. When purchasing a water cooler for MOSFETs / voltage regulators, the following should be considered:

  • Does the water cooler fit the respective motherboard?
  • Is the material of the water cooler compatible with the other components in the water cooling loop?
  • Are there options for LED effects?
