PC Gamepads
The design and button layout are probably the most important aspects of a gamepad. Here, the demands are rather individual. Gamepads for PC are mostly based on the familiar design of the standard controllers from Xbox360/ XboxOne as well as PS3 and PS4, and include two analog sticks, a digital control pad, four to six usable buttons on the front, and four shoulder buttons. However, there are also third-party manufacturers who adopt the basic design of the console controllers but integrate certain extra buttons or additional functions. Here, buttons like auto-fire or turbo are probably the most popular. Ultimately, you have to see what suits you best.
Gamepads for PC - Wireless and ForceFeedback
PC gamepads are usually also available in wireless versions. The wireless gamepads work either via an infrared connection, Bluetooth, or a 2.4 GHz connection, allowing the user to play wirelessly from a greater distance. When purchasing a wireless gamepad for PC, it is essential to ensure that a rechargeable battery is already integrated. Furthermore, when buying a gamepad for PC, you should pay attention to the following things:
- Vibration: Vibration provides a better gaming experience and draws the user more into the game. Vibration is often marketed under the label "ForceFeedback."
- Is the surface of the PC gamepad grippy enough? Rubberized grips on the gamepad provide a good hold in the hand and non-slip grip that you don't want to miss while gaming. Apart from that, it's a good way to counteract hand sweat.
- In addition, gamepads have additional functions such as programmable buttons or a rapid-fire function.
- Compatibility: Nowadays, gamepads are also compatible with multiple platforms, so some gamepads can work on Xbox 360, PC, XboxOne, PS4, and PS3.
