Cooling Water Additives / Dyes for Liquid Cooling Systems

Water Additives for Water Cooling Systems are substances that are added to a coolant, which is later filled into a water cooling system. These substances or concentrates can be, for example, anti-corrosives and biological inhibitors that prevent not only corrosion but also the accumulation of foreign bodies in the water cooling system. Such added substances allow the coolant to be used in the same water cooling loop for a longer period until it needs to be replaced.

Which Water Additive for Which Water Cooling Configuration?

The water additives usually differ only slightly in their quality. However, it is important that the finished coolant for water cooling systems is only slightly toxic, if at all, and that it also conducts a high cooling performance well. In addition, some manufacturers also offer fluorescent chemicals to create an optical glow effect. This is possible in many different colors and is mainly for modding and beautification purposes.

To avoid spilling anything when filling into the fill port and to avoid exposing oneself to potentially harmful chemicals, a funnel can be used. However, care must also be taken that additives, concentrates, or other substances in the coolant do not chemically react with the material of the water cooling components. When purchasing, the following points should be considered:

  • Which chemicals are used in the water additives and how do they react with other substances in the coolant or the water cooling loop?
  • How toxic/environmentally friendly are the substances contained in the finished mixed coolant?
  • What is the specified usage duration of the individual water additives or concentrates?
