Cube PC Cases

Within the case landscape, distinguishing cube cases from mini-towers or HTPC cases is not such a clear-cut matter. The only clear criterion for classification is the cubic shape. However, there are also many other features that collectively form the image of a cube case.

The Various Features of a Cube Case

  • Normally, an ATX motherboard does not fit into a cube case. While Micro-ATX boards fit in some, but not all, cube cases, Mini-ITX is the most common form factor for a cube case. However, there are also a few very large cubes with more capacity.
  • Cube cases typically accommodate medium-sized graphics cards or CPU coolers, but these are usually limited in size. In specific cases, special case designs may provide space for a very long high-end graphics card.
  • A cube case rarely has more than one external drive slot, and it is often omitted entirely. The number of internal drive slots varies between one to four slots for 3.5-inch and 2.5-inch drives, depending on the individual case design.
  • Ventilation in cube cases varies. Most larger cube cases have two to three fan slots, while smaller cube cases have fewer. Additionally, many cube cases are designed for silent operation and are soundproofed.
  • Radiator mountings are also found in cube cases. Some cube cases offer radiator mounting, while others provide, if any, only two case pass-throughs for the water pipes of an external water cooling system.
