Fittings for Water Cooling
Fittings for Liquid Cooling Systems
Connections are indispensable when setting up water cooling systems because, without them, it would be nearly impossible to connect hoses and water cooling lines. Naturally, there are various types of connections with different functions. These connections always have either an external or internal thread with a specific diameter. The most common diameter for water cooling connections is G1/4 inch. However, there are other sizes and diameters like G1/8 inch and G3/8 inch, etc.
The different types of connections for water cooling systems in detail
Legris connections are named after the company Legris and are used for the simple and tool-free attachment of the hose to a threaded connection. Similarly, plugin connections serve the same function but are not from the aforementioned company. Both types are simply inserted into a hose and held in place by a type of barb.
If you frequently tinker with your water cooling system, you should get quick-release connections. These are designed to simplify the connecting and disconnecting of water cooling lines by being attached to the hose and then connected or disconnected with another quick-release connection via a simple plug mechanism. Additionally, there are many push-in connections or fittings that are attached to hoses and then screwed onto another connection.
Adapters either convert one connection diameter to another or from a male to a male thread connection or from a female to a female thread connection. Angle adapters change the direction of the water cooling hose to another angle. This is done in standardized angles (e.g., from 45 to 90 degrees, etc.). Compression fittings are used to secure the hose with a union nut. These are naturally much safer than, for example, plugin connections, and very effectively prevent coolant from dripping out of the water cooling lines. So, the different types of connections for water cooling systems are:
- Legris connections
- Plugin connections
- Quick-release connections
- Push-in connections
- Adapters
