CPU Liquid Coolers / Water Coolers

Those who possess the necessary know-how and sufficient liquidity like to equip their computer with water cooling. Individually designed, assembled part by part, and eagerly tested and maintained, a water cooling system promises optimal component cooling, silent qualities, and high overclocking potential (OC).

The components in the PC where liquid cooling promises the greatest success are the graphics card and the main processor. However, a suitable water cooler for the CPU must be found, considering compatibility with the processor as well as integration into the water cooling loop (keywords: connection sizes, inner/outer diameter of the tubes). Ultimately, personal taste also counts in such ambitious and unique projects.

CPU Water Cooler Variants for Every Taste

Therefore, the relevant manufacturers of parts for liquid cooling almost universally offer different versions of CPU water coolers. The processor water blocks can have different compatibility with various motherboard sockets (AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1, FM2, FM2+ from AMD or LGA775, 1150, 1155, 1156, 1366, 2011 from Intel). Additionally, there are occasionally special high-flow versions of CPU water coolers, specifically designed for high flow rates and thus particularly efficient cooling. Finally, the personal taste of potential buyers is also catered to through the choice of different materials and finishes. Common versions include:

  • The basic copper version: Performance-wise, it often rivals more expensive versions, but lacks the refinement of nickel plating or special cover materials.
  • Coolers with acrylic cover: The transparent acrylic glass allows a view of the flowing coolant, which can be particularly effective with colored liquids and the use of additional LED lighting.
  • Coolers with acetal cover: The use of resin on the top not only usually makes the corresponding CPU water coolers cheaper but also gives a unique look to the system thanks to the black surface.
  • Nickel-plated versions: The silver nickel layer not only looks particularly elegant but also protects the copper underneath from tarnishing or oxidation.
