Fanless Power Supplies - Noise-Free Operation
Enjoy absolute silence with fanless power supplies. Ideal for silent PCs and home cinema systems, without annoying fans.
Fanless Power Supplies
Fanless power supplies are considered the dream of all silent enthusiasts. The idea behind this is easy to understand: If there is no fan installed in the voltage converter at all, you will remain free from any fan noise permanently. Depending on the cooling concept, completely fanless systems can even be designed. Although many brands now offer extremely quiet actively cooled power supplies, passive power supplies continue to enjoy lasting popularity.
Fanless Power Supplies for Enthusiasts
The main disadvantage of fanless models is usually the purchase price. Fanless operation places high demands on the performance and durability of the components, which makes the production of passive power supplies pricier. High nominal power without airflow is typically only made possible by particularly high efficiency: Every percentage point more efficiency reduces the waste heat and thus directly simplifies cooling.
Fanless power supplies in the ATX format are therefore generally assigned to the high-end segment, with cheaper models practically considered extinct. High-quality components, maximum efficiency, convincing measurements, and fanless operation make passive power supplies the best choice for extremely demanding users.
If significantly less power is needed for living room computers or energy-efficient servers, passively cooled voltage converter boards in combination with an external desktop power supply can also be a good alternative. These also do not require a fan and are designed with their nominal power and connectors to meet the needs of particularly economical computers.
