80% / TKL keyboards
TKL keyboards omit the numpad but retain the arrow keys, function keys and navigation keys. Discover 80% keyboards for gaming and everyday use.
TKL / 80% Keyboards
TKL stands for Tenkeyless and refers to keyboards that omit the separate numpad found on a full-size layout. The function row, arrow keys and navigation keys remain available. TKL is therefore also commonly referred to as an 80% layout.
Who Is a TKL Keyboard Suitable For?
A TKL keyboard is suitable if you do not need a numpad but still want direct access to F-keys, arrow keys and navigation keys. Without the numpad, the keyboard takes up less space than a full-size model and leaves more room for mouse movements, particularly when gaming.
For everyday and office use, the 80% layout also offers an extensive key selection, as long as you do not regularly use a numpad.
Looking for a different keyboard format? You can also find:
- 100% / full-size keyboards – with a separate numpad
- 75% keyboards – without a numpad and with more closely arranged key sections
- 65% keyboards – without a numpad or dedicated function row
- 60% keyboards – a reduced layout with a particularly small footprint
FAQ – TKL and 80% Keyboards
What Does TKL Mean on a Keyboard?
TKL stands for Tenkeyless. These keyboards omit the separate numpad found on a full-size keyboard while retaining the function keys, arrow keys and navigation keys.
Are TKL and 80% the Same?
TKL keyboards are also commonly referred to as 80% keyboards. However, the percentage is not a fixed standard and may vary depending on the manufacturer.
Does a TKL Keyboard Have Arrow Keys?
Yes. TKL keyboards generally have dedicated arrow keys as well as a separate navigation cluster. It is primarily the numpad of the full-size layout that is removed.
What Is the Difference Between TKL and 75%?
Both layouts omit the numpad. On a TKL keyboard, the arrow and navigation keys are usually arranged in separate sections. A 75% layout places the keys closer together and therefore takes up less space.
Is a TKL Keyboard Good for Gaming?
TKL keyboards are popular for gaming because they take up less space than full-size keyboards, leaving more room for mouse movements. At the same time, the F-keys and arrow keys remain directly accessible.
