The Fractal Design Define 7 is the consistent evolution of a proven and innovative case concept. This mid-tower combines a straightforward appearance, characterised by smooth exterior surfaces and a clear design language, with extensive interior customization options that offer high flexibility in system configuration and excellent expandability. Whether a discreet silent system or a striking gaming PC, the Define 7 can be anything.
Overview of the features of the Fractal Design Define 7 mid-tower:
- Elegant, high-quality mid-tower in black
- Nearly silent thanks to optimized case sound insulation
- Front door with brushed aluminium
- Extensive support for air and water cooling
- Three fans & fan controller pre-installed for up to nine fans
- Modular dust filters on front, top, and bottom
- Dual-layout for flexible interior design
- Two slots for vertical installation of an expansion card
Fractal Design Define 7: Optimised for water cooling
The Fractal Design Define 7 offers extensive options for installing water cooling systems. Radiators can be fitted at the front, top, bottom, and rear. With the 5.25-inch drive bay installed, a 280mm or 240mm dual radiator can be mounted at the front, and a maximum 240mm dual radiator at the top.
At the case bottom, there is space for a 240mm or 280mm dual radiator, and a 120mm radiator can be accommodated at the rear panel. Without the optical drive bay, 280mm dual radiators, as well as 360mm and even 420mm triple radiators, are possible at the top, and a 360mm triple radiator can be mounted at the front.
Air cooling in the Define 7
Up to nine case fans in 120mm or 140mm size can be installed in the Fractal Design Define 7: Without the 5.25-inch bay, three fans fit at the top and front, two at the bottom, and one at the rear. If an optical drive is installed, one fan slot at the top must be sacrificed, and there is room for a maximum of two 140mm fans at the front.
The Fractal Design Define 7 includes three 140mm PWM-controlled fans: two mounted at the front and one at the rear of the mid-tower. These are connected to the integrated Nexus+ 2 fan hub, which supports up to nine fans in total. For powerful CPU coolers, the manufacturer allows a generous 185mm height clearance.
Define 7: A home for high-performance hardware components
The motherboard tray of the Fractal Design Define 7 accommodates small Mini-ITX, Micro-ATX, standard ATX, and large E-ATX boards up to 285mm wide. The storage layout allows for graphics cards up to 315mm, while the open layout offers 467mm with fans installed at the front and a generous 491mm without front fans.
In total, there are seven horizontal and two vertical expansion slots. A separately available riser cable is required for vertical GPU installation. Under the PSU shroud, an ATX power supply up to 250mm in length fits when an HDD cage is installed.
Space for many storage drives
A key feature of the Define 7 is its dual-layout, allowing the case to be tailored to individual needs. In the storage layout, the mid-tower offers numerous drive bays. Factory-installed are six 3.5/2.5-inch drive trays, two 2.5-inch drive trays, and a multi-bracket for mounting a 3.5/2.5-inch drive in one of the designated locations. With separately available accessories, up to 14 3.5/2.5-inch trays and four 2.5-inch trays can be accommodated. With a second HDD cage under the PSU shroud, even 15 3.5/2.5-inch trays are possible.
The large drive cage at the front of the case can be completely removed. In this case, the storage plate is installed to complete the motherboard tray. On its rear side, two multi-brackets can be mounted with 3.5-inch hard drives or 2.5-inch SSDs. Additional space for a multi-bracket is also created on the PSU shroud. At the top of the case, there is a modular 5.25-inch bay for an optical drive, which can be removed to make room for larger radiators.
The design of the Define 7
When closed, the Fractal Design Define 7 gives the impression of being a single moulded piece: The design is characterised by straight lines, smooth exterior surfaces, and rectangular shapes. This is also due to the elegant front door clad in brushed aluminium. This is where the case’s modularity begins, as the door can be mounted to open either left or right. A magnetic locking mechanism ensures it stays closed.
The Fractal Design Define 7 is available in various versions and colours. The closed outer panels are always fitted with bitumen sound insulation, effectively reducing noise levels. A second top cover with ventilation slots is included. Tempered glass side panels are not soundproofed. This version of the Define 7 is black both inside and out. The right side panel is made of steel with sound insulation, while the left side panel is dark tinted tempered glass.
Easy installation thanks to modular design
For comfortable installation of all components, the case top can be completely removed. Removing the side panels as well leaves the mid-tower accessible from three sides. This greatly simplifies both component installation and cable routing. Side panels and top panel also feature a tool-less push-to-lock mechanism.
Rubberised cable guides and a spacious 30mm of space behind the motherboard tray facilitate cable management. The new multi-brackets of the Define 7 allow any free fan slot to be converted into a mount for a hard drive, SSD, pump, or reservoir, and can be placed in various locations inside the case.
Extensive connectivity
The I/O panel of the Define 7 is equipped with one USB 3.1 Type-C, two USB 3.0, and two USB 2.0 ports. Additionally, there are two 3.5mm audio jacks, one serving as a headphone output and the other as a microphone input. The mid-tower also features a power and reset button.
The Nexus+ 2 PWM fan hub offers three 4-pin PWM and six 3-pin fan connectors. A total of nine fans can be connected, matching the maximum number of case fans supported by the Define 7.
Note: The PCIe riser cable required for vertical GPU mounting is not included and must be purchased separately. The graphics card should not exceed two slots in height when installed vertically. The manufacturer recommends a model with water cooling.|
