B550 motherboards support all features of the third and fourth generation Ryzen processors, foremost the PCI Express standard in version 4.0 (PCIe 4.0). PCIe 4.0 is backwards compatible and can be used with all expansion cards from previous generations. Additionally, the motherboards support up to 128 GB of RAM with a guaranteed clock rate of 3,200 megahertz. The GIGABYTE B550 AORUS Elite V2 is an ATX motherboard and features a PCI Express 4.0 slot with full x16 bandwidth for graphics cards plus two PCI Express 3.0 x16 slots and one PCIe 3.0 x1 slot. The four RAM slots support up to 128 GB of DDR4 RAM with a clock rate of up to 3,200 megahertz and can even handle clock rates of up to 4,733 MHz via OC.

The AM4 motherboard provides two M.2 slots. One slot is connected with four PCI Express 4.0 lanes. M.2 SSDs with the advanced NVM Express protocol (NVMe) and a connection via four PCI Express 4.0 lanes support data transfer rates of up to 8 GByte/s and are twice as fast as via PCI Express 3.0.
