Fan Mounting Clips

The high rotational speeds of the rotors of all types of PC fans generate fine vibrations that can be transmitted through resonances to neighboring components, eventually being perceived as annoying noises from inside the computer. For CPU cooler fans, screws are typically not used for mounting. Instead, a decoupling connection using vibration-damping fan brackets is usually employed.

Fan Brackets - Various Sizes and Mounting Methods

By mounting an additional fan on the CPU cooler using a fan bracket, you can extract even more performance from the CPU and achieve new temperature records. Separately purchased fan brackets and clamps are also suitable as replacement parts for defective, bent, or lost mounts.

Fan brackets are usually made of flexible metal and are attached directly to a recess in the aluminum fins of the heatsink and then snapped into the corresponding screw holes in the fan frame. Common hole spacings are 120 mm or 140 mm. There are two types of fan brackets: Type-A (with tunnel mounting) and Type-B (without tunnel mounting). A tunnel is a hole that runs through the entire height of the fan and is enclosed by a tube. In contrast, most fans only have holes on the top and bottom, with the middle part remaining free. With a tunnel, mounting is only possible on the outer sides of the fan, while without a tunnel, it can also be done in between.

Alternatively, mounting clips for fans are offered in the form of clamps, which, unlike fan brackets, allow a free choice of fan sizes while still ensuring a secure and stable hold.
