Custom sleeving of cables with MDPC-X Sleeve Medium in B&W Carbon

Modifying power and data cables offers an exciting way to enhance the appearance of your PC while tailoring it to personal preferences. The process, known as sleeving, involves covering cables with a braided sleeve for better protection or replacing the existing sleeve. With a wide range of colour variations and UV-active coatings, cables can become a real eye-catcher.

MDPC-X sleeve is specifically designed to transform a simple cable into a design object, creating a distinctive aesthetic. MDPC-X is renowned for adding optimal structural integrity to the cable, eliminating any small waves. The tight application enables perfectly uniform and smooth curve radii, or in simpler terms, straight lines – without needing any external aids to force the natural flow, which could disrupt the appearance.

How does sleeving work and what do I need?

The procedure is as follows: First, the connectors are removed from the cables, for which specialised tools may be required depending on the connector type. If applicable, the existing sleeve is then removed, and the cable may be shortened. The new sleeve can then be applied to the cable at the desired length. Finally, small pieces of heat shrink tubing are placed over the beginning and end of the cable, and the connector is reattached. Upon heating, the tubing shrinks, sealing the transition and preventing the sleeving from fraying.

To determine how much sleeving material is required for your project, the general formula is: number of cables * length of cables + 20%. It’s important to note that the sleeve length refers to its stretched state at minimal expansion. With larger diameters and increased stretch, the overall length decreases. If the sleeve is used at its maximum stretch diameter, nearly 200% of the sleeve length may be required to cover the length of the object.

MDPC-X Sleeve Medium ensures perfect sleeving without compromise

This is one metre of medium sleeve made from high-quality PET-X fibres. Compared to other sleeving materials, such as nylon-based ‘fabric’ materials, PET-X is water-repellent and dirt-resistant. Additionally, PET-X does not ignite as easily and quickly as nylon materials, making it suitable for use in extreme conditions from -58°C to +155°C.

The diameter of MDPC-X cable sleeving is highly variable, being stretchable or compressible, allowing for a wide range of possible applications. The medium sleeves can be stretched from ~5 mm to ~14.5 mm and feature a glossy, elegant combination of black and white, known as B&W Carbon.

Delivery note: This product is sold by the metre and cut to length at our distribution centre after ordering. Depending on logistical requirements, delivery may occasionally be made in one piece or in a maximum of two sections. The length of the two sections is variable, but the cuts are always made to the nearest full metre. The total length will always match the ordered length.
