AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D: 8-core CPU with 2nd Gen 3D V-Cache
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D from the Granite Ridge processor family features eight CPU cores based on the "Zen 5" architecture. This processor is specially designed for gaming enthusiasts and offers you an unbeatable combination of uncompromising gaming performance and outstanding energy efficiency.
Thanks to the new architecture and the second generation of AMD's 3D V-Cache, it delivers more power than its popular predecessor, reaching an impressive 5.2 GHz in boost. The cache beneath the chip improves cooling, stability, and allows for the first time overclocking on X3D processors!
Full support for PCIe 5.0 and all AM5 motherboards
Paired with an AMD X870(E) chipset, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D fully supports the PCI-Express-5.0 standard, which is twice as fast as PCIe 4.0. PCIe 5.0 is backward compatible and can be used with all expansion cards from previous generations.
All Ryzen 9000 processors use the AM5 platform and are designed to work with compatible AMD chipsets. Thanks to the same socket, this CPU is also compatible with older X670(E) and B650(E) chipsets, provided there is an update to the latest BIOS version.
AMD's energy-efficient Zen 5 architecture
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D features eight physical CPU cores that, thanks to Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT), can handle two tasks at once. This effectively doubles the core count to 16 with the additional eight virtual cores. The Ryzen 7 processor operates with a high base clock of 4.7 GHz, which can adapt in real-time to specific applications with Precision Boost 2 and increase up to 5.2 GHz turbo while staying within its 120-watt TDP.
The I/O chiplet, manufactured using a 6-nanometer FinFET process, provides 28 PCIe lanes, with four lanes each reserved for the connection to the motherboard chipset and for NVMe SSDs. This leaves 16 lanes for communication with graphics cards, while additional PCIe lanes for further storage devices, expansion cards, and peripherals depend on the motherboard chipset.
The CPU's integrated memory controller supports fast DDR5 memory in dual-channel mode with or without ECC error correction at a native speed of 5,600 MT/s. Significantly higher clock speeds can be achieved through manual overclocking and AMD EXPO performance profiles.
AMD's 3D V-Cache technology: optimised for high-end gaming
The second generation of AMD's 3D V-Cache is a milestone. AMD has pushed the limits of the previous generation, offering gamers new possibilities.- New cache position: Previously located on top of the chip, the cache now lies under the core chiplet (CCD), helping to dissipate heat more effectively and cool the processor.
- Higher clock speeds and overclocking potential: Better heat control enables significantly higher clock speeds. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D officially supports overclocking.
- Improved energy efficiency: Thanks to powerful Zen 5 cores, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D also benefits from all efficiency optimisations.
The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D boasts an impressive 96 MB of Level 3 cache.
Why is the Ryzen 7 9800X3D ideal for gaming?
When cache space is maxed out, data is offloaded to RAM. Access times to RAM are significantly longer than those to the cache memory, which is directly on the CPU. Thanks to the large 3D V-Cache, the processor can access significantly more data faster, accelerating computations. This allows your system to perform more actions in less time. Especially demanding games benefit greatly, as higher frames per second provide a smoother, better gaming experience.
