With the Threadripper Pro series, AMD creates the ideal workstation: Hyperthreading, enormous cache memory, high boost clock speeds, and the efficient 4nm FinFET manufacturing process lay the foundation for a powerful workstation PC with Threadripper CPUs from the “Zen 5” family.
- 64 CPU cores from the "Zen 5" family with a 350 Watt TDP
- 128 threads with simultaneous multithreading (SMT)
- Base clock of 3.2 GHz and 5.4 GHz turbo
- Large unified cache memory: combined 320 MB L2 and L3 cache
- Highly efficient 4-nanometre FinFET transistors for CPU cores
- Extensive features and 128 PCIe 5.0 lanes with WRX90 platform
The AMD Ryzen Threadripper PRO 9985WX: 64-core processor for the ideal workstation
For the workstation segment, AMD relies not only on an enormous number of cores but also on steadily increasing clock speeds. With Precision Boost, the Threadripper CPU selectively raises individual clock speeds up to 5.4 GHz.
Thanks to the switch to the Zen 5 family and the 4-nanometre FinFET process for the CPU cores, this is achieved at the same die size and thermal design power (TDP) as the predecessor model from the 7000 series.
Furthermore, all PCIe 5.0 lanes are offered in the usual quantity, ensuring the Threadripper Pro 9985WX provides mature connectivity. Even regarding memory, you are particularly well equipped with a maximum of 2 TB DDR5 RAM at a maximum clock speed of 5,600 MHz.
AMD Zen 5: CPU cores with 4nm architecture
The Zen 5 generation enables not only higher clock speeds alongside the usual functionality but also more instructions per clock cycle (IPC). This means more instructions are executed per clock, significantly improving CPU performance.
This advantage is made possible by the new manufacturing process, which in turn allows for more transistors per core, while cache and PCIe lanes remain fully intact.
Multithreading (SMT) and Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO)
Thanks to simultaneous multithreading, the Zen 5 cores, as with the previous model, can process two threads simultaneously. The number of cores effectively doubles with 64 virtual cores to 128 cores.
Depending on the TDP and cooling conditions, the CPU accelerates its cores up to 5.4 GHz with Precision Boost Overdrive to prioritise important threads and efficiently handle your workload.
Even if the high boost clock of up to 5.4 GHz is not enough for you, AMD has set no limit on the clock speed. This allows you to overclock the CPU as you wish. However, any damage caused by overclocking is not covered by the manufacturer!
Latency-free data access with intelligent cache
What matters is not only a total cache size of over 480 MB but also one that is intelligently managed. The massive cache of the AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 9985WX is managed highly efficiently with “Smart-Fetch” algorithms, ensuring latency-free data access and fast calculations.
The CPUs are also enhanced with many other algorithms, instruction sets, and units such as AVX 2 for complex vector calculations or two AES units for fast and reliable data encryption.
