The B550 chipset is the heart of the ASUS ROG STRIX B550-F Gaming motherboard and has been specifically optimised for Ryzen 3000 series "Matisse" and 5000 series "Vermeer" CPUs. B550 motherboards support all features of the third and fourth generation Ryzen processors, foremost among them the PCI Express standard version 4.0 (PCIe 4.0). PCIe 4.0 is backwards compatible and can be used with all expansion cards from previous generations. Additionally, the motherboards support up to 128 GB of memory with a guaranteed clock speed of 3,200 megahertz. Depending on the motherboard, much higher clock speeds are possible via overclocking. The B550 chipset also enables processor overclocking.

The MSI MPG B550 GAMING is an ATX motherboard featuring a PCI Express 4.0 slot with full x16 connectivity, a PCI Express 3.0 x4 slot and a PCIe 3.0 x1 slot. The four RAM slots support up to 128 GB DDR4 memory at speeds of up to 3,200 megahertz and can handle clock speeds of up to 5,100 MHz through overclocking.
The AM4 motherboard provides two M.2 slots for drives up to 110 mm in length (22110). One slot is connected to the processor with four PCI Express lanes and supports PCIe 4.0. The second M.2 slot is connected to the chipset with four PCI Express lanes and supports PCIe 3.0. In addition, six SATA 6G ports are provided.
Modern connections and RGB LED lighting
The MSI MPG B550 GAMING offers at the I/O panel a USB 3.1 port with Type-C socket, three USB 3.1 ports with Type-A sockets and four USB 2.0 ports (Type A). For CPUs with integrated graphics, one HDMI and one DisplayPort connection are available.
