The B550 chipset is the heart of the MSI B550M Pro-VDH WiFi motherboard and has been specifically optimised for the Ryzen CPUs of the 3000 series "Matisse" and the 5000 series "Vermeer". B550 motherboards support all features of third and fourth generation Ryzen processors, especially the PCI Express standard in version 4.0 (PCIe 4.0). PCIe 4.0 is backwards compatible and can be used with all expansion cards from previous generations. In addition, the motherboards support up to 128 GB of RAM with a guaranteed clock speed of 3,200 megahertz. Depending on the motherboard, significantly higher clock speeds are also possible via overclocking. The B550 chipset also allows for processor overclocking.

The MSI B550M Pro-VDH WiFi is a micro-ATX motherboard and features a PCI Express 4.0 slot with full x16 connection for the graphics card. For additional expansion cards, the motherboard provides two PCIe 3.0 x1 slots. The four RAM slots support up to 128 GB of DDR4 memory with a clock speed of up to 3,200 megahertz, and can even handle clock speeds up to 4,400 MHz via OC.

The AM4 motherboard offers two M.2 slots. One of the M.2 slots is connected to the CPU with four PCI Express 4.0 lanes. It accommodates plug-in cards up to 80 mm (2280) and supports the SATA protocol. M.2 SSDs with the advanced Non-Volatile Memory Express protocol (NVMe) and a connection via four PCI Express 4.0 lanes support data transfer rates of up to 8 GB/s, which is twice as fast as PCI Express 3.0.
