    4U Server Cases

    4U rackmount server case

4U cases are the all-rounders among rackmount systems. Thanks to their generous dimensions, which are comparable to a classic mid tower, they can easily accommodate standard components. Whether used as a high-end workstation for GPU rendering or as a large-scale storage server, 4U server cases provide the necessary space for complex setups.

Redundant Power Supply and Multi-CPU Support in 4U Cases

The 4U server case offers enough space for professional hardware that cannot be installed in slimmer enclosures like 2U. They easily support large SSI-EEB or E-ATX motherboards. Redundant power supplies with separate modules ensure maximum reliability. This makes 4U systems the ideal foundation for databases and critical network services.

Drive Capacity and Storage Management in 4U Cases

The 4U form factor allows vertical installation of up to three rows of 3.5-inch drive bays at the front of the case. Depending on the model, 8, 12, or 15 hot-swap bays are supported, enabling direct connection of drives to the controller. This design allows tool-free drive replacement during operation. In addition, support for 5.25-inch drives is often available, giving you maximum flexibility for your storage setup.

Questions and Answers About 4U Server Cases

Can standard tower CPU coolers be installed in 4U cases?

In most 4U models, tower coolers up to around 150–160 mm in height can be installed. This enables powerful yet quiet air cooling for multi-core processors, which would not be possible in flatter cases.

Can a 4U rack case also be used as a tower server?

Many 4U models are designed as “convertible” systems. By removing the 19-inch mounting brackets and attaching optional feet, the case can be operated upright as a traditional tower server in an office environment.

Do 4U cases fit into any 19-inch rack?

The width is standardized by the 19-inch format, but the case depth can vary significantly. “Short-depth” models fit into shallow wall-mounted racks (around 450 mm depth), while fully equipped storage servers often require depths of 650 mm or more and appropriate server racks.
