AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT Graphics Cards

Introduced on May 10, 2022, the AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT is a gaming graphics card for 1440p gaming (WQHD). The mid-range graphics card is based on the RDNA2 GPU architecture (Big Navi) and the graphics chip is manufactured in a 7nm process at TSMC in Taiwan. Compared to the previous RX 6700 XT, the current update features both higher clock rates and increased memory bandwidth. Alongside numerous gaming technologies, the biggest innovation is the hardware-accelerated ray tracing.

AMD's Big Navi chip

Radeon RX 6750 XT: The RDNA2 GPU Architecture

The Radeon RX 6750 XT is based on the Navi 22 XTX graphics chip, which consists of 17.2 billion transistors. The total 2,560 stream processors (shader units) are divided into groups of 64 shaders across 40 compute units (CUs). In addition to the 64 shaders, each CU has a "ray accelerator" for hardware-based ray tracing.

The GPU typically clocks at a game clock of up to 2,495 MHz during gaming. Under particularly high demands, the graphics chip can boost up to 2,600 MHz. According to AMD, the RDNA2 compute units should clock up to 30 percent higher at the same power loss than the predecessor. In terms of energy efficiency, Big Navi is said to deliver approximately 65% more performance per watt than the first Navi generation. The Infinity Cache is also believed to play a role here.

Infinity Cache & Video Memory

One of the new features of the RDNA2 architecture is AMD's Infinity Cache. The Infinity Cache allows for an effective memory bandwidth 3.25 times higher. With a standard 256-bit memory interface and an effective memory clock of 18,000 MHz, the memory bandwidth is 432 GB/s. The Infinity Cache of the AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT achieves a bandwidth of 1.8 TB/s.

For video memory (VRAM), AMD uses the GDDR6 standard with a capacity of 12 GB for the Big Navi graphics cards. Thanks to the mentioned Infinity Cache, this achieves performance comparable to equipping with faster GDDR6X. This allows AMD to implement a powerful combination of high speed and high capacity on the graphics card without resorting to the more expensive memory type.

Smart Access Memory

With the Smart Access Memory (SAM) technology, AMD promises additional performance when combining a Radeon RX 6750 XT graphics card with a Ryzen 5000 processor on a B550 or X570 motherboard. SAM takes advantage of the "resizable BAR" feature of the PCIe standard. A corresponding gaming system is expected to benefit from a minimal performance increase. The extent of the performance gain depends on the game and the chosen resolution.

Additional Features

Some of the many smaller optimizations of the RDNA2 GPU architecture include:

  • HDMI 2.1 for 4K gaming at 120 Hertz
  • Variable Rate Shading (DirectX 12 Ultimate)
  • Mesh Shader (DirectX 12 Ultimate)
  • Sampler Feedback (DirectX 12 Ultimate)
  • AV1 decoding (8K30, 4K60)
  • H264 & H.265 decoding/encoding

Ray Tracing & FidelityFX

With the ray accelerators, AMD has hardware-based ray tracing. Ray tracing (Microsoft DirectX 12 DXR) enables realistic lighting through the simulation of physical properties and the behavior of light. Ray tracing calculates the color of individual pixels along the path light takes from the user’s eye through a 3D landscape.

As it travels through the 3D scenery, light is reflected by objects or generates reflections. At the same time, shadows, transparent, or semi-transparent objects are created, causing light refractions or distortions. All these effects are combined by ray tracing to represent the final color of a pixel on the monitor.

As a relatively new technology, ray tracing places very high demands on hardware. With FidelityFX, AMD implements a super-resolution technology to offload the ray tracing accelerators.

Gaming Technologies

Along with the hardware in the form of graphics cards, AMD introduces new gaming technologies designed to provide PC gamers with a better experience. Supported features for gamers include:

  • Performance presets in the Radeon Adrenalin software
  • AMD Radeon Anti-Lag
  • AMD Radeon Boost
  • AMD FreeSync (4K@240Hz, 8K@60Hz)
  • Supports HDMI 2.1 VRR
