AV1 Encoding: Better Quality for Your Livestream

The encoder from NVIDIA: NVENC is an independent part of the GPU of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB. This is used to encode videos and relieve the CPU. This allows your system to free up resources for games while streaming at the same time so you can focus on what matters: a truly stunning transmission. The new RTX 4000 graphics cards feature two NVENC encoders with AV1. This allows you to stream 1440p content at the same performance as H.264 but in 1080p. Additionally, the encoder allows you to record in 8K60 and HDR with ShadowPlay.

Ada Lovelace SM

GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB: The Ada Lovelace GPU Architecture

The Ada GPU architecture offers several optimizations over Ampere. The number of CUDA cores per SM (Streaming Multiprocessors) has increased to 46. An ADA Lovelace SM can perform either 46 FP32 or 23 FP32 and 23 INT32 calculations depending on the workload. Like Ampere, each SM has a ray tracing compute core.

With 46 SMs, the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB thus has 4,352 CUDA cores (each 2,176 FP32 and FP32/INT32 ALUs) as well as 34 ray tracing cores.

Ray Tracing Performance of the RTX 4060 Ti 8 GB

Ada GPUs are equipped with a new technology called Shader Execution Reordering (SER), which can triple the performance of ray tracing compared to the Ampere generation. Command workloads are sorted more efficiently, allowing in-game FPS to increase by up to 25%.

Ray tracing (RT) enables realistic lighting by simulating the physical properties and behavior of light. RT is the calculation of the color of individual pixels during the path that light takes from the user's eye through a 3D landscape. The light passes through the 3D scene and is reflected or creates reflections from objects. At the same time, shadows, transparent or semi-transparent objects are created. This results in refractions or distortions.

Ray tracing combines all these effects to display the final color of a pixel on the monitor. So far, ray tracing has primarily been used in movies to create special effects. These scenes often use render farms, and calculating complex 3D animations and special effects for movies can take several weeks. Due to the complexity of ray tracing, PC applications such as computer games have usually been filled with 3D objects built on a raster model. In rasterization, 3D objects are modeled from a network of triangles or polygons. In the rendering pipeline, these triangles of the 3D model are individually converted into pixels on a 2D surface. The pixels can then be further processed ("shaded").

Tensor & DLSS 3

Since the 4th generation tensor cores have higher performance compared to the 3rd generation, Ada can achieve four times the frame rates with DLSS 3 than with native rendering. Tensor cores are specially developed for deep learning compute cores used for AI-based DLSS.

These matrix-based compute cores are equipped with special data paths for optimized floating-point computational throughput and also offer increased energy efficiency. Both the training and inference as parts of deep learning benefit from the tensor cores. Training, that is, learning new skills from existing data, is carried out with the tensor compute cores with up to five times the TFLOP performance as with Ampere.
