Headsets

If you are looking for a good headset or gaming headset, you have come to the right place! With our headset and gaming headset advice, everyone can find the perfect device for their individual needs. Before purchasing a headset or gaming headset, consider what tasks the device should perform and which features it should have. Headsets come in various types:

  • With two ear cups and a microphone on the boom: Binaural headsets reduce ambient noise as the ears are shielded. The sound is output in stereo, making these headsets ideal for listening to music and gaming, as they can deliver even the smallest sounds in the best quality - ensuring no enemy escapes.
  • With a single ear cup and microphone: These models allow greater perception of ambient sounds and are mainly used for telephone calls.
  • In-ear headsets: Often used for mobile phone calls. Due to their light and small size, they are popular for travel and can also be used as headphones for laptops.
  • Wireless headset: Wireless headsets such as Bluetooth headsets or devices with DECT technology are connected via radio. These devices are often slightly heavier because a receiver is integrated into the wireless headset. For wireless headsets, consider the battery charging time and talk time. Battery performance varies significantly and depends on the overall equipment of the device. A high-performance, illuminated device will consume more power.

Bluetooth Headset, Radio Headset, or USB Headset?

Wireless headsets are all the rage! Particularly with headphones and headsets, connection and charging cables can be really annoying. Wireless headphones and wireless headsets are fun and quickly make you forget the hassle of cabling. Bluetooth headsets are among the most popular wireless headsets due to their stable connection and low power consumption. With the 4.0 standard, Bluetooth headsets can maintain reception within a range of several metres, although the intensity and range of the connection always depend on the devices used. Whether the Bluetooth headset reaches the kitchen must be tested, as wall thickness plays a significant role in the connection. Since Bluetooth is already present in most devices, no additional receiver is needed.

Radio headsets connect via a strong 2.4 GHz radio signal and have excellent connection quality. These devices can be easily attached to all everyday devices such as PCs, TVs, or MP3 players. The transmission station of the radio headset should ideally be placed in the centre of the home to ensure the signal is received throughout. Additionally, avoid placing interference sources next to the receiver. Devices like microwaves and cordless phones can interfere with the connection, and a digital radio headset can also experience issues from a Wi-Fi network. The reception quality of radio headsets depends on the device's quality and the thickness of the walls in your home. A good radio headset battery lasts 8 to 12 hours.

USB headsets and jack headsets have various advantages. Wired connections are more stable and not affected by radio interference, plus the sound quality is better than Bluetooth or radio devices. However, the difference is barely noticeable in higher-end models. The USB headset does not require a battery and thus does not need to be charged - though it limits movement. Fortunately, some manufacturers offer wireless and Bluetooth headsets with USB or jack connectors, so you won't encounter unpleasant surprises while listening to music or gaming. USB headsets are available with various USB connectors - from Micro to Mini to Standard USB.

Gaming Headset and PS4 Headset

Gaming headsets and PS4 headsets are important for communicating with other gamers in multiplayer games and for better perception of ambient sounds. The player is isolated from the outside world, leading to a more intense gaming experience. Gaming headsets can be used on PCs or consoles. Affordable PS4 headsets are available as entry-level models for under £100, but almost any high-quality PC headset can also be used for the PlayStation. There are many mid-range PS4 headsets that can also be used on a PC or TV. If you want to use the PS4 headset for both gaming and listening to music, it's worth investing a bit more.

  • When choosing gaming headsets and PS4 headsets, pay special attention to the sound quality of the headphones and microphone. A good gaming headset is essential for online shooters to precisely locate audible enemy steps.
  • If you use a gamer headset for long sessions, focus on comfort and ensure the headphones and boom have soft padding. The gamer headset should not be too tight on the head and should not press on the ears. A wide frequency range, good bass, and Surround 7.1 provide an advantage in every battle!
  • Large ear cups are important because larger drivers offer better quality and more power, and they also increase the device's isolation from ambient noise.
  • Additionally, pay attention to the microphone. It should at least have noise-cancelling capabilities and the ability to adjust highs and lows and eliminate sibilant sounds, which is always beneficial.

Other Features of Headphones

Our selection options for headsets make it clear how diverse the features for headsets are. Should the headset be illuminated and should the illumination be switchable? Does an in-ear headphone fit better, or should it cover the entire ear? What connections does the device need and what frequency range should the headset cover? Our selection options, found above the products, automatically display possible and sensible combinations.

If this selection is too complicated, focus on the options "design, type, and driver size". In the lower price range, there are headsets that can be used for Skype or watching videos without any problems, but the quality of the microphone and headphones improves with the model's price. Additional features such as different cables and connectors, lighting, or volume control via the cable are naturally absent in cheaper models. The ability to change the battery and the charging options also play a significant role. If the battery needs to be changed during a film or battle, it should be quick. Charging the headset is sometimes only possible by removing the batteries - in this case, charging via a docking station or even a USB cable is much more convenient. Some devices allow the microphone to be completely removed, while other models offer foldable mics.

Impedance in headphones: the impedance or nominal resistance varies with each headset. For mobile device headphones, the impedance ranges from 16 to 80 ohms, and for over-ear models connected to hi-fi systems, it ranges from 250 to 600 ohms. Ideally, PC headsets can output different impedances and are thus suitable for various devices. If a headset with 250-600 ohms is connected to a mobile phone, the sound quality will be flat, so a low impedance of under 32 ohms should be considered.
