Micro-ATX Cases: Compact PC Cases for Gaming & Powerful Builds

Lian Li VECTOR V100 MINI PC Case

Micro-ATX cases are positioned below midi towers in terms of size. Thanks to their compact format, this case size is especially practical for smaller builds that should not take up too much space.

At the same time, they still offer enough room for powerful gaming components and are ideal if you are looking for a PC that fits well into a living room setup.

Whether you want a mATX case with a carry handle for your next LAN party or a compact airflow PC case for your living or working room — you will find the right Micro-ATX case here.

How does a Micro-ATX case differ from other PC case sizes?

The classification is not clearly defined. Which category a computer case belongs to depends on several characteristics.

    • Motherboard compatibility: mATX cases support only Mini-ITX and mATX motherboards
    • Hardware clearance: Micro-ATX cases can fit relatively large graphics cards and CPU coolers. There is also enough room for a standard ATX power supply
    • Air cooling: mATX cases offer multiple fan mounting positions, sometimes even for 140 mm fans
    • Water cooling: Depending on the model, radiators can be installed on multiple sides
    • Drive bays: Micro-ATX cases can usually accommodate multiple 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch SSDs or drives

The main feature that distinguishes midi towers from mATX cases is the maximum supported motherboard size. Despite their compact size, mATX cases still offer a lot of flexibility to install your hardware without major restrictions.

    Micro-ATX Cases with Carry Handle

Models such as the Jonsplus Z20 come equipped with practical carry handles. Combined with the often lower weight of a mini case, this gives you the option of taking your gaming PC with you — whether to friends for gaming sessions or while traveling more frequently without giving up gaming.

    Airflow in a Micro-ATX Case

    Jonsplus Z20 PC Case

The internal layout of a Micro-ATX case is usually designed to be as efficient as possible, so you can install your hardware easily while maintaining enough airflow for proper cooling. High-quality fans or radiators and clean cable management are especially important.

Do you want even more freedom when building your gaming PC? Take a look at our midi towers.

Micro-ATX Cases – Questions and Answers

Do large graphics cards like an RTX 5090 fit in an mATX case?

Smaller RTX 5090 models can theoretically fit in an mATX case, but you should always check the specifications carefully.

Which motherboards fit in a Micro-ATX case?

mATX cases support motherboards up to Micro-ATX size.

How many fans can I install in an mATX case?

That depends on the model and cannot be answered universally. In many cases, at least eight 120 mm fans are possible, and some models even support more than ten.

Is an mATX case suitable for high-end gaming components?

Yes, many Micro-ATX cases are also suitable for high-end components. Pay close attention to compatibility in the specifications and to clean cable management.

Is a Micro-ATX case suitable for custom water-cooling loops?

Only to a limited extent. Due to the restricted interior space, you have less freedom for tube routing and less room for pumps and reservoirs.

What is the difference between a Micro-ATX case and a midi tower?

mATX cases save more space than midi towers, but in many respects they still offer almost as many hardware options as a midi tower. The main limitation is motherboard size.

Is a Micro-ATX case also considered a mini case?

In principle, yes. However, not every mini case necessarily supports a Micro-ATX motherboard. That means a Micro-ATX case is a mini case, but a mini case does not automatically have to be an mATX case.
