SODIMM – Compact Memory for Laptops and Mini PCs
SO-DIMM / Notebook Memory
Small Outline Dual Inline Memory Module, or SO-DIMM, are memory modules primarily used in notebooks due to their compact form factor and excellent efficiency. SO-DIMMs differ in connection type and size from regular RAM, making them incompatible with standard motherboards. They are often inserted at an angle and then pressed down to lock into two retaining clips.
Specifications of SO-DIMM
As with regular memory, the JEDEC Solid State Technology Association sets the standards for memory modules. SO-DIMM specifications range from SDRAM to DDR3, with DDR4 on the horizon and expected to be available soon. Each RAM generation is an evolution of the previous concepts, with SO-DIMM also offering higher speeds, varying latencies, lower voltages, and error detection improvements.
